Mentoring Service

What is Our mentoring Service?

The Mentoring Service at Children First Derby offers group mentoring to vulnerable 10–18-year-olds living in Derby City. It is a critical part of our mentoring model as it provides a learning environment that increases self-esteem and confidence, promotes diversity and helps young people develop emotionally, behaviourally and broaden outlooks.

The Mentoring Service currently offers three group activities with each group supporting up to ten mentees. These specialist, structured activities are delivered in partnership with external providers to ensure that the additional and varied needs of the children are met.

WORKING WITH DELTA HOTELS

We have recently started a new partnership with Delta Hotels who are supporting our mentees to learn personal skills, develop and gain practical experience in a hotel and related places of work. This is particularly beneficial for school leavers who are feeling particularly anxious or stressed about their future.

The partnership offers career opportunities and a step towards a purpose filled life, whilst also providing a solid foundation of sought-after skills for jobs in across a huge choice of roles within the hospitality industry.

BEING PART OF THE YOUTH ALLIANCE

The Derby City Youth Alliance is a coalition of community organisations who have come together to help support young people in Derby to be safe, develop and prosper.

The Mentoring Service is in a strategic partnership with eight other organisations working with young people within Derby. The partnership has been effective as it has provided opportunities to share experiences, best practice, knowledge, upskill and develop more opportunities for the young people we support by collaborating across organisations within the city.

Mentors provide intensive 1 to 1 support to these young people.
